Main Festivals of India Diwali Holi Raksha Bandhan Christmas Eid

Diwali Diwali is known as the festival of lights. It is celebrated because on this day Lord Rama returned home to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile. It is celebrated during Oct.-Nov. every year. People decorate their homes, sweets are distributed by everyone and thousands of lamps are light up to create a world of fantasy.

Holi . Holi is the festival of colours. . People all over India celebrate this festival by playing colours and give sweets to relatives and many more. . There is a story behind this festival and because of that story people still burn holika(bonfire). . It is celebrated in the month of March.

Raksha Bandhan This festival is devoted to the beautiful relationship shared by brothers and sisters. It is a festival of brothers and sisters. On this day, sister tie rakhi ( a thread) on their brother’s right wrist and pray for their safety and brother gives a gift to his sister for praying for his safety. It is celebrated in the month of August.

Christmas Christmas is celebrated by Christian because Jesus Christ was born on this day. Christmas is celebrated on 25th December. A special kind of decorated tree, known as Christmas Tree is put up in homes.

Eid Eid is known as the ‘festivals of breaking of the fast’. It is celebrated by Muslims that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting. People wear new clothes and after Eid prayers greet each other by saying ‘Eid Mubarak’ followed by a formal embrace.
