Where is your future taking You? HEALTH CARE CAREERS

Support Services This category of health care jobs has entry level positions such as custodians, to ones with college degrees in environmental science. They are responsible for cleaning the work area, maintaining medical equipment and providing a safe work area.

Biotechnology Biotechnologist -Maintains and repairs medical equipment. Have a 4year college degree in environmental technology Can earn on average 100K a yr

Information Gathering and distributing medical information Medical records maintain patient charts. Receptionist duties vary depending on facility they work in, Admiting assist patients going in the hospital or having procedures. Entry level positions are available in medical records, medical receptionist, admitting officers, and file rooms

Medical Records Entry level positions in maintaining medical records, patient charts, unit secretaries are part of information positions Training is required to be in medical billing , medical coding, and medical transcription areas. A 2 or 4 year degree is needed to be an medical office manager Medical billing prepare and send out patients bills Medical coding use hospital codes to document charges for test, procedures, and office visits, which then get sent to the billing department. Medical transcription is where people can type up letters, test, and doctor dictation to go into the medical record.

Radiology Radiologist- 4yr degree, plus medical school, pass certification exam. They read and interpret the test results. Radiological Technician- 4yr degree. Perform, develop images, and explain test to patient MRI- magnetic resonance imaging CT-computer tomography xray

Laboratory Pathologist- 4yr degree, plus medical school Lab technician-2 or 4yr degree Forensics – they do study in medical field

Therapeutic

Therapeutic careers are involved in changing the health status of the patient over time. They communicate with other staff, collect information, plan treatment, implement procedures, and monitor patient status. Types of careers are Physicians, Nurses, Physical Therapist, Pharmacist, Respiratory Therapist, Social Worker, EMT, Dentist and many more….

RN Registered Nurses can get a 2 or 4 yr degree. Must take NCLEX state exam to be licensed as a nurse after completing nursing school Avg starting wage is $22 hr Can work is hospitals, clinics, schools, offices, home health

Physician There are many areas of specialty such as pediatrician, family practice, surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, dentistry, veterinary, and more Must have 4yr degree, plus 2-4 more years in medical school, plus 3-6 yrs in residency training depending on specialty. Must pass license exam by Board of Medical Examiners

Health Science offers an insight into all medical professions by providing foundational knowledge in health care. The first semester is Foundations and Therapeutic skills class. The second semester is the clinical internship class. This class teaches basic nursing assistant skills preparing students for the opportunity to take the Certified Nursing Assistant exam. Upon passing this exam you will have a greater opportunity in getting a nursing assistant job paying 10-12$HR. You will also have a basic knowledge of health science that will help you in pursuing a college degree

LAB Working in the lab is a privilege. We will not be in the lab everyday. You will be able to put into practice the skills we have discussed in lecture, and demonstrate skills from the NNAAP Certified Nurse Aide booklet. Participation and practice is a must!
