The Use of Etre Etre is used as a helping verb in the past for specific verbs These verbs CAN NOT use avoir as a helping verb… they must use être (conjugated in the present) Subject + helping verb (être) + past participle* The main formation stays the same only you are now using être instead of avoir as the helping verb

Verbs that go with Etre The following verbs go with être in the passe compose Aller partir Arriver passer Descendre rester Entrer retourner Rentrer sortir Monter tomber Mourir * venir* Naitre* devenir* (revenir)
