Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave to all. Mark 10:42-44

Session 7 – Leading Great What famous leader do you most admire? What do you admire about that person?

Session 7 – Leading Great Play Video

Table Talk – Session 1 Talk about a leader in your life – a parent, boss, or coach – who has had a big influence over you. What about that leader made him or her special? Have you ever been under the authority of a poor leader? If so, what did it cost you? Great leaders ask the question, “What can I do to help?” Do you agree? How does that statement challenge your assumptions about leadership?

Table Talk – Session 2 In what ways do you live for your own name and your own glory? What have you gained from approaching life that way? What has it cost you? Over whom do you have authority at work or at home? In light of Andy’s teaching, in what ways can you change your current approach to leading? Think about someone you lead. What is one thing you can do this week to leverage your authority for that person’s benefit? What can this group do to support you?

Session 7 – Leading Great ”You know that those regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them… Not so with you. Instead… Mark 10: 42 - 44 Leverage your authority for the benefit of those under your authority Look for opportunities to do for one what you wish you could do for everyone What can I do to help?

Moving Forward What can I do to help? To lead like Jesus we must confront our ego You must decide…”Am I really worth living my life for?” Take advantage of the opportunities provided to you this week Develop Spiritual muscle memory through repetition Remember… “Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45 What can I do to help?

Preparation for Session 8 Day 1. Read John 6:48-51. In what ways is Jesus “the bread of life” for you? How do you depend on him each day? What are some ways you need to depend on him more? Day 2. Read John 6:53-55. Jesus’ audience found his words shocking and upsetting. In what ways is the idea of dependence on God shocking and upsetting to people living today? Day 3. Read John 6:60-61. What are some of Jesus’ teachings that you find “hard”? What are some practical things you do to follow Jesus faithfully and without grumbling when what he asks is challenging? Day 4. Read John 6:65-66. As you think about the passage, consider the things that caused some of Jesus’ disciples to quit following him. Do the temptations they faced sound real and compelling to you? Why or why not? Day 5. Read John 6:67-69. Consider Simon Peter’s response in this passage. How does it reflect your own response when following Jesus becomes difficult?
