Islamic Philosophy of Education Done by: Hussain Alashoor, Idah Aldawssary and Zahra Aleid Presented to: Dr. Belvadi

At the this presentation, we will discuss: The background of the Islamic philosophy of education. The three aspects which formulated the Islamic philosophy of education: Metaphysics Epistemology Aims of education Methods and curriculum Role of the teacher Ethics Summarize the Islamic philosophy of education.

Background There is no God but Allah and that Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) is his messenger. The Holy Quran and the Hadith are the two sources which Muslims depend on their education. Education is a necessity to civilize the individual, build his character and to form the society as well as to reach a supreme level of spirituality with God.

Metaphysics The whole world is God’s creation. Man is God’s caliph on earth. Equality on distributing the natural resources. Man’s social commitments. The Day of Judgment.

Epistemology Education is part of religion. “Read” was the first verse in the Holy Quran. The purpose of Mohammed’s prophecy is to teach man and develop his character. Man should learn from birth to death. Learners sit on the wings of angels. If a learner dies, Paradise is his reward.

Aims of Education God’s acceptance. Character development. Performing religious duties. Practical skills. Society survival.

Methods and Curriculum The Islamic philosophy of education is holistic( religion, humanity, art, science, history and geography). Practical skills. Corporal punishment VS the Islamic mercy.

The Role of the Teacher Mohammed (peace be upon him) is the first teacher. Scientists fear Allah more than the rest. They have been placed in a higher state. They are the inheritors of the prophets. They should acquire a good character. They knowledgeable in their subjects.

Ethics Islam is the religion of treatment. Muslim is known by three attributes: sincerity, keeping promises and secretariat's performance and vice versa.

Summary Islam is an all-encompassing system which includes all aspects of life. Education is the key to that success.
