Focus 11/19 After the defeat of Carthage in the Punic Wars, Rome began to expand. As Rome became bigger, more and more people came under Roman control. The Romans increased trade and brought in slaves to work on large farms. As the slaves poured in, the gap between the rich and poor increased.
