GSA ASSEMBLY MEETING STUDENT HEALTH RENEWAL

 ACCORDING TO THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT (ACA), STUDENT PLANS ARE REQUIRED TO MEET ACCEPTABLE “METALLIC STANDARDS” – THESE STANDARDS WERE DESIGNED TO EXPLAIN THE EXTENT TO WHICH A PLAN WILL COVER HEALTH EXPENSES. 1  BRONZE – MOST OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES  SILVER  GOLD*  PLATINUM – LEAST OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES *MU GRADUATE STUDENT HEALTH PLANS QUALIFY AS GOLD. 1 SOURCE: right-for-you (ACA) HEALTH REFORM

 DEPENDENT PARITY – DEPENDENT PREMIUM RATES MUST BE EQUAL TO OR LESS THAN STUDENT PREMIUM RATE.  ESTIMATED TO INCREASE STUDENT PREMIUM RATES:  DOMESTIC STUDENTS (ENROLLMENT 1 – 1,330): -14.1%  INTERNATIONAL STUDENT (ENROLLMENT 2 – 2,502): -14.1%  CURRENT DOMESTIC ANNUAL RATE: $3,017  CURRENT INTERNATIONAL ANNUAL RATE: $1,651  1 ENROLLEMENT AS OF  2 ENROLLEMENT AS OF NEW POLICY

 NEGOTIATED RENEWAL RATE FOR DOMESTIC STUDENTS WILL CHANGE FROM AN ANNUAL RATE OF $3,017 TO $2,592 PER STUDENT.  NEGOTIATED RENEWAL RATE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS WILL CHANGE FROM AN ANNUAL RATE OF $1,651 TO $1,419 PER STUDENT.  THIS YEAR, INFORMATION ON DEPENDENT RATES WAS MADE CLEAR. THE DEPENDENT RATE IS CAPPED AT $7776 (DOMESTIC) AND $4,257 (INTERNATIONAL).  FOR EXAMPLE, AN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT WITH A SPOUSE AND CHILDREN WOULD PAY AN ANNUAL RATE OF NO MORE THAN $4,257 – NO MATTER HOW MANY CHILDREN THE STUDENT MAY HAVE. NEW POLICY (CONTINUED)

 PEDIATRIC DENTAL (AND VISION) IS COVERED.  VOWED TO REEXPLORE DENTAL OPTIONS. IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT DENTAL COVERAGE IS NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE IT WAS COST PROHIBITIVE (SMALL POOL – HIGH CLAIMS – HIGH PREMIUM) AND WHEN PREVIOUSLY OFFERED AS A SEPARATE COVERAGE OPTION – NOT POPULAR. DENTAL COVERAGE
