What is Good Qualitative Research Examples of feedback from various workshops

Good Qualitative Research Numbers not central issue Detail, in depth, not breadth and numbers Need not be generalised in same way as in quantitative work Centrality of respondent: experiences, networks, more complex, meanings, observations & context matter, stand alone case-studies rather than variables, more open method, social position, might pick up on exceptions as well as generalities, less mechanical more concurrent analysis, try to give voice to respondent, meanings, nuances, processes and changes through time; Descriptive Empirical evidence Causal function analysis

Small sample Capturing intangibles Multiple sources of data: triangulation Repeated visits to individuals Give and take, participatory, relationship of researcher and researched Respondent also reflects, less extractive Researcher’s personal traits Non-objective, biased, Ethics Rapport with respondents Less structures research tools: observations, questions Sensitive issues and errors What is the message is less clear than in quantitative research More authentic information than in quantitative
