Silk Road Products LT: I can analyze information presented in a reading to decipher the main ideas and key information as well as anaylze an author’s argument by using claim tests. Please get out your CrashCourse Notes and your map.

Entry Task Entry Task: Write a claim statement answering each of these questions: Why did nomadic people become more important with the growth of the Silk Road? What was the most important ‘product’ spread along the Silk Road?

Article Read an article together as a class Complete a reading notes sheet As we read through the article, please annotate for the 4 ways to test claims. What are they again?

Testing Claims 1. Authority – believe the argument because they are an expert 2. Intuition – something feels right (based on prior knowledge) 3. Evidence – facts, data, primary sources used to back up an argument 4. Logic – believe the argument because it makes sense. The pieces fit together.

Mapping Products Take out your Silk Road Maps Today we are going to add product symbols to the map! Need to add at least 2 products from each region listed: o Mediterranean, Persia, Northern & Eastern Africa, India, Egypt, Central Asia, and China For each product make a symbol to represent that product on the map. Add the symbol from the region of origin. Create a key on the bottom of the map to show what symbols represent each product. Draw areas showing where each product went.
