Warm-up: On the front of your packet, please write the answers to the following 2 questions: 1. What is one thing you find interesting about crime scene investigation? 2. Make 3 estimates for a person’s height if their stride is 31 inches long? a.An estimate that is way too low: b.An estimate that you think is about right: c.An estimate that is way too high:

 A body has been found in the library office with a knife stuck in his chest. A group of three students found the body this morning. The deceased was on his back when discovered, and the room was in a little bit of disarray, chairs turned over and desks shoved out of place. Bloody footprints and the murder weapon were left at the scene!

Everyone in school is shocked and wondering what happened. When the police arrive, the crime scene investigators go to take a look at the scene. What will the police be doing to solve the crime and to ensure that they have the right perpetrator?

 Write anything that comes to your mind.  There are no right or wrong answers.  Write continuously for 90 seconds.  How could you use the evidence to try and find the killer?

 Scatter Plot - graph with points that show the relationship between two sets of data  Line of Best Fit – a line that shows the trend of the data and can demonstrate a correlation

 May pass through some of the point, all of the points or none of the points  Purpose: find trend or pattern in data to make predictions about future data.

 Let’s graph the data  What do we predict is the murderer’s height?
