The K-value includes unknown parameters like Ramide III and RPO4 and the exact composition of the collagen and the mineral matrix. K2 was chosen to fit the measurements. Using the approximation that bone consists of pure hydroxyapatite, the bandwidth between the two dashed lines reflect the difference between a 1:1 mixture of octacalcium phosphate (Ca/P=1.5) and carbonated hydroxyapatite with Ca/P=1.9. The gray region reflects the converted 95% prediction bands. The validity of these graphs for the low-mineralized regions remains unclear.
