“Indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God.” John 16:2 ESV

IN HIS STEPS “For it is a gracious thing, when, mindful of God, one endures sorrows while suffering unjustly. […] For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps. He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.” 1 Peter 2:19-24 ESV

Peter and the Apostles “Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. And every day, in the temple and from house to house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.” Acts 5:41-42 ESV

And yet, notwithstanding all these continual persecutions and horrible punishments, the Church daily increased, deeply rooted in the doctrine of the apostles and of men apostolical, and watered plentously with the blood of saints.

Now I begin to be a disciple. I care for nothing, of visible or invisible things, so that I may but win Christ. Let fire and the cross, let the companies of wild beasts, let breaking of bones and tearing of limbs, let the grinding of the whole body, and all the malice of the devil, come upon me; be it so, only may I win Christ Jesus! “I am the wheat of Christ: I am going to be ground with the teeth of wild beasts, that I may be found pure bread.

“Eighty and six years have I served him, and he never once wronged me; how then shall I blaspheme my King, who hath saved me?”

“Victorious in peace and in Christ.” “Being called away, he went in peace.” “Lawrence to his sweetest son, borne away of angels.”

Blessing in Persecution? “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
