Life Skills Learning Connections Previously, you learned about good work habits. Now we will learn how to understand our paycheck. Next, you will learn how to keep your money safe.

Ohio Extended Standards Level 1 EFL b: Identify the amount of money earned on a paycheck or earning statement. Level 2 EFL b: Identify the amount of money earned on a paycheck or earning statement. Level 3 EFL a: Identify dollar amounts for gross wages, benefits, taxes and other deductions on an earnings statement..

Why should you understand your paycheck? So that you know how much money you made. So you know where your money is going. So if your paycheck gets messed up, you’ll know it.

Paycheck The paycheck is the part you take to the bank.

Pay Stub The pay stub is the part that tells you why you are getting paid that much.

Earnings Earnings is the section that shows you how much you earned.

Deductions Deductions are all of the reasons money is taken out of your paycheck.

Gross Pay Gross Pay is what you are paid before any deductions are taken out.

Net Pay Net Pay is what you are paid after all deductions are taken out.

Taxes Taxes are money taken out by the government to help with building roads, running schools, and helping the elderly.

Other Deductions Other Deductions help you pay for things like health insurance, retirement, etc.
