RUN16 Status Y. Akiba (RIKEN/RBRC) 2016/05/27 Radiation lab meeting

Au+Au recorded luminosity 10 physics weeks of AuAu 200 GeV run was completed on 5/9. 20 days of RHIC down time due to a magnet quench protection diode. The run was extended by~3 weeks to the end of June PHENIX recorded >2/nb of data in |z|<10cm. It is 110% of BUP goal RHIC is down due to a magnet problem for 20d BUP goal 1.8/nb

Next: d+Au Beam Energy scan 1 week, 1.0 B evts1 week, 160 M evts1.5 weeks, 110M1.5 weeks, 9M robust baseline v 2 and v 3 measurements All 3 lower energies for robust v 2 measurements to establish role of pre-equilibrium stage role of hadronic stage Factor of ~20 stat increase from Run8 FVTX improved EP v 3 at lower energy: more sensitive to time spent in QGP Does v 3 collapse at lower energy ? upper limits of v 3 can be established same detector conditions=> systematics control in the BES Statistically significant measurements for both v 2 and v 3 Transition region for v 3 collapse Largest lever arm for v 2 measurements 9 0-5% central events within |z vtx |< 10 cm Actual order of the run is 200GeV (1wk)  62GeV(1wk)  20GeV(1.5wk)  39 GeV(1wk) The order of 20 GeV and 39 GeV was reversed by STAR request

dAu at 200 GeV dAu run at 200 GeV was complete on 5/20 PHENIX has two goals in this run – 1 G evts in |z|<10cm and 5% centrality to measure v2 and v3 to study QGP in small system – 77/nb in BBC wide to measure direct photon in forward rapidty with MPC and MPC-EX. Quick start up of the run – BBC timing (Nagashima, Ueda), VTX-BBC offset check (Taebong, Mitsuka), MPC-EX data quality check (MPC-EX group) PHENIX achieved >110% of the first goal and ~95% of the second goal Goal: 1.0G evts Goal: 77/nb

dAu at 200 GeV V3 is observed in d+Au for the first time The results of two reaction plane detectors (BBC and FVTX) agree The results seems to be consistent with SONIC model used in the BUP projection. Tight positon matching between MPC cluster and MPC-EX cluster, showing that MPC-EX is working well

dAu at 62 GeV (running) 62 GeV run started on 5/20 and will end on 5/27 – Less than a day to switch from 200 GeV to 62 GeV – Quick start up of PHENIX  BBC tuning (Nagashima/Ueda), BBC-VTX offset check (Taebong, Mitsuka) PHENIX is on track to achieve the goal of recording 320 M evts in 5% central V3 result expected. V3 is more sensitive to the life time of QGP Quick analysis is on going. First results of v2 reported FVTX trigger is working Goal: 0.64 G (0.32G in 5% central) 10% central trigger Projection before the run v2 v3

Next: 20 GeV and 62 GeV The next part of dAu BES is 1.5 week at 20 GeV, followed by 39 GeV run to the end (6/20) In the current schedule, physics will end on 6/20. The last week of RUN16 is a 1 week test for Coherent electron Cooling (CeC) for eRHIC R&D. There is possibility that CeC test is not ready. In this case, the physics run will be extended for 1 week. – Most likely, this extra 1 week will be 200 GeV AuAu for STAR HFT 1.5 week at 20 GeV 5/28 to ~6/7 39 GeV ~6/7 to 6/20 Projection of 9M evts (1.5 weeks) Projection of 110M evts (1.5 weeks)

VTX pixel event misalignment issue The code to detect pixel event misalignment was developed and the data scan of RUN15pp and RUN15pAu are complete Results of the analysis (U.Colorado group) (VTX meeting, 5/26) RUN15pp and RUN15pAu, 3% and 11% of pixel chips had event misalignment. Next: Scan of RUN14 and to develop code to re-shuffle event to fix the issue

Summary The first part of RUN16, Au+Au at 200 GeV, has been completed very successfully – PHENIX achieved >110% of the data record goal. This doubles the dataset for heavy flavor measurement and complete the “Heavy Flavor campaign” of PHENIX We are now running d+Au Beam energy scan – 200 GeV run complete very successfully – On track to achieve goal of 62 GeV run RUN16 physics will end on June 20. This will conclude the data taking of PHENIX
