Rational Exponents Algebra

Fractional Exponents (Powers and Roots) “Exponent of the Radicand” “Index”

Rewrite and Simplify:

Radical Expressions are simplified when… 1.There are NO negative exponents. 2.There are NO fractional exponents in denominator. WHY??? NO RADICALS IN DENOMINATOR!!! 3. There are NO complex fractions. 4. The index of any radical is the least possible number.

Quick Review – Exponent Rules

NEGATIVE EXPONENT RULE Upstairs – Downstairs: A negative exponent means it’s in the wrong place.
