Summary Tested a new groundwater option to Noah-MP that accounts for aquifer interaction Noah-MP performs better than Noah for near surface temperature (with exceptions), though more optimization is likely required Noah-MP performs the same (2002) or regionally worse (2010) for precipitation In regions with low water table depth, upward transport of water: –Increases late summer latent heat flux –Has little effect on precipitation –Improves surface temperature simulation
