Vietnam War By Jordan, Miles, and Tyler

Background Information This war was a back hand war fought against the communists through the Vietnam civil war. The Soviets supplied the northern Vietnamese with fire arms and supplies because northern Vietnam were communist. This war was not liked among the Americans back home because this war was available through television, and regular people could see what went on during war.

Viva La Nam! The French took hold of Vietnam and colonized it to form the French Indochina. A Vietnamese man named Ho Chi Minh organized troops to over throw the French during the 40’s. In 1946 the war between the French and the Vietnamese began. The American president Harriet Truman decided to help the French.

In the jungles of Vietnam Northern Vietnam was turned Communist and the US didn’t like that. The US wen to combat Southern Vietnam with Northern Vietnam as their allies. Soldiers were fought on all sides with Guerrilla warfare by enemies that knew where they were fighting and how to fight in it. The north was supplied weapons from the Soviet Union and Chinese to help decimate the Americans.

The war we didn’t win Most of the turmoil took place inside the US with protesters disagreeing with racial problems and the viciousness of war. After 50,000 deaths in the jungles of Vietnam, the US decided to pull out of the country. Right after, Northern Vietnam led one large offensive and beat the South.

What just happened? After the war in Vietnam, the tensions tightened between the Soviets and the United States. 50,000 US soldiers died before the United States decided to leave Vietnam. After the US leaves, Northern Vietnam leads a massive offensive against Southern Vietnam to end the war.

Fun Facts The official name of Vietnam is the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. US Congress never declared war against Vietnam. John F. Kennedy was the first US President assassinated during a year of war since the US Civil War. 2,709,918 Americans served in uniform in Vietnam. The first man to die in Vietnam was James Davis, in 1961.
