♥ No one is sure when William was born, but he was baptized on April 26, 1564 ♥ His father was John Shakespeare ♥ His mother was Mary Arden ♥ Married Anne Hathaway who was 8 years his senior ♥ Children were Susanna and twins Judith and Hamnet ♥ Died April 23, 1616 – could this have been the day of his birth as well? It is very possible as children in that time period were baptized 3 days after their birth.

♥ Some of Shakespeare’s poems were published without his consent ♥ He wrote 154 sonnets ♥ A sonnet is a 14 line poem with the rhyme scheme abab cdcd efef gg ♥ Shakespeare’s sonnets are written in iambic pentameter ♥ Iambic pentameter is a poem written with 10 syllables in each line ♥ Sonnets have a specific rhythm – it is unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable
