An idea of ILD general assembly plan 2015/10/8 Yasuhiro Integration Meeting 1

Introduction Change from TDR –Preferable site of ILC is defined (Kitakami site) –Vertical shaft access to the detector hall (DH) has been proposed (Change Request 3) and accepted –New CFS design including DH and Assembly Hall (AH) –Limitation on the transportable weight has become clear (usually 20t, >20t with special permission)  Impact on iron yoke assembly ILC Infrastructure & Planning Working Group –Chaired by Sakue Yamada –Requirement to ILC Lab has to be clarified (assembly space, office building, and other facilities) New global assembly plan of ILD has to be made to cope with these changes Sub-detector assembly scenario has to be clarified to make a detailed design of ILC campuses (Central campus and IP campus) 2

IRON RETURN YOKE ASSEMBLY 3

Assembly scenario Yoke assembly scenario has to be changed –Originally, it was assumed that ~200t blocks (1/12 of a ring) are made at a factory and shipped to the interaction point (IP) –It was turned out that transportation of yoke blocks of ~200t is almost unrealistic –It is much preferable to assemble the yoke blocks from iron slabs on site –New space for yoke block assembly is necessary on or near IP campus A possible plan for space configuration and assembly timeline has been made 4

Assembly space Two options for yoke block assembly space; –Medium size building near IP campus Needed if we don’t have enough space at IP campus More cost (250t crane, reinforced road to IP campus, special trailer, etc.) –Small building (alcove) attached to AH at IP campus Less cost  Preferable The latter option has been considered 5

Yoke pre-assembly building Conceptual design –Attached to the main AH –Separation wall between the main AH for welding(?) –Loading area for iron slabs with 2 entrance doors –Relatively small crane to lift up slabs (capacity<20t, TBD) –Slab storage space for 1 block –Yoke block assembly area Yoke block is assembled on a pallet which moves by air pads Completed yoke block is slid to AH We need 2 or 3 pallets (1 for block assembly, 1 or 2 for stand-by for installation in main AH) –Total area ~20mx20m (TBD) –Height ? –Also used as loading area of sub-detector (Endcap CAL, Muon) modules (another pallet would be necessary) 6

OTHER SUB-DETECTORS 9

Discussion at ALCW2015 In ALCW2015 at KEK in April, we had a meeting to discuss sub-detector assembly scenario There were presentations on VTX/Si tracker, TPC, ECAL, AHCAL, and SDHCAL 10 Space requirementTrailer Si trackers ~150m 2 clean room in IP campus and/or Central campus TPC~200m 2 / 0m 2 clean room in Central campus ~100m 2 / 200m 2 clean room in IP campus ECAL~900m 2 space with crane in Central campus or IP campus 15 t HCALAHCAL option ~200m 2 air-conditioned space in Central campus or IP campus 20 t SDHCAL option ~1200m 2 space in IP campus or Central campus (Transportation challenge in Central campus case) 11 t or 125 t

Some consideration We should not forget about space for muon detector and SiD ECAL and SDHCAL group assume parallel assembly of the barrel part and the endcap part –Barrel part and endcap part can be assembled in series to reduce the space requirement (?) Transportation of 125t ring of SDHCAL is a big challenge 11 ~15t ECAL stave~125t SDHCAL ring

ILD ASSEMBLY TIMELINE AND PROCEDURE 12

Assumption New timeline for CFS –Ground breaking (GB) 4 years after project approval –AH becomes ready ~2.5 years after GB –DH becomes ready ~6.5 yeas after GB Magnetic field measurement on surface after ECAL installation TPC and silicon inner trackers are installed after lowering the detector to DH AH is used only for iron yoke assembly, solenoid assembly, and installation of ECAL, HCAL, solenoid, and muon detector Assembly hall has a 250t crane and an 80t crane for ILD Installation period of each sub-detector is based on TDR 13

Open questions Yoke –Size of yoke pre-assembly building: 20mx20m? –Capacity of the crane: 20t ? Muon detector –Location of module storage/test space: Central campus or IP campus? (Probably Central campus) –Size of the storage/test space (size for one sector (1/12) of a yoke ring would be enough) ECAL –Location of module storage/test space: Central campus or IP campus? (probably Central campus) –Reduction of the size (900m 2 ) possible? (Endcap and barrel in series) SDHCAL –Location of module storage/test space: Central campus or IP campus? (probably IP campus) –Reduction of the size (1200m 2 ) possible? (Endcap and barrel in series) AHCAL –Location of module storage/test space: Central campus or IP campus? (probably IP campus) 27

Proposal Fix space requirement for sub-detector assembly at IP campus –Iron yoke pre-assembly building (~400m 2 ?) –HCAL assembly building (~600m 2 ?) –(Control room and clean rooms for TPC and VTX/Si tracker can be located in the research office building) –If we can make agreement in this meeting, we would give the information to J-Power to update the IP campus design by LCWS2015 Define ILD official timeline –Timeline on p15 as a starting point –Each sub-detector group can make “change request” to ILD technical coordination team 29
