The Outsiders Vocabulary By: Prathmica Chandramohan

Editorial Definition- a newspaper or magazine article that gives the editor’s opinion on some issue Sentence- The editorial over the conflict in Egypt was simply remarkable.

Hesitation Definition- be slow in action; not sure if they want to do it Sentence- Billy hesitated at the edge of the diving board before jumping off.

Incredulous Definition- incredible; showing unbelief Sentence- It was incredulous what Mark did for the homeless shelter.

Nonchalantly Definition- not showing much interest or effort Sentence- Dave’s only had his driving license for a week; he tries to act very nonchalantly.

Rebellious Definition- defying or resisting some established authority Sentence- Amy was rebellious, and she disobeyed the teacher.

Reputation Definition- a general opinion of someone or something that held is by the public Sentence- Jamie had a reputation of being a really mean person.

Sarcasm Definition- mocking; ironic language Sentence- Sandra wrote a report filled with sarcasm.

Sympathetic Definition- to have feeling for somebody else Sentence- Billy felt sympathetic for the girl who lost her family in the tsunami.

Unfathomable Definition- immeasurable Sentence- The feeling she had for her dog was unfathomable.
