A Brief Introduction of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (ACFTU)

founded on May 1, 1925 local unions : 31 provincial level unions industrial unions : 10 national level Basic Information :

union membership : 209million  Migrant workers’ union member 66million  full-time cadres : 543,000  part-time cadres : million

1. Protecting Workers’ Rights at Source ▼ formulation of laws and policies concerning workers' rights and interests both at the national and local levels ▼ promote the tripartite consultation mechanism at various levels ▼ establish a joint meeting system with governments at the corresponding levels activities

2. Coordinating Labor Relations  establish the equal consultation and collective contract system  build the workers' congress system to exercise their right to democratic management. Its main functions include examining important production plans, deciding on major issues relating to welfare of workers, and appraising and supervising the leadership of an enterprise  build a sound mediation and arbitration system at all levels and participate in handling labor disputes -Chair Person : Mayor -Members:-Rep. of CCI -Rep. of TLO (CBOs Association) -PPP Expert -M. Secretary:Focal Person

3. Promoting Employment ▼ open employment agencies at county level and above ▼ set up job training centers ▼ hand out small loans to laid-off workers

Caring for the Well-Being and Health of Workers ▼ carry out in depth the Warmth Project and do whatever it takes to lift poverty-stricken workers out of their difficulties ▼ develop welfare services for workers, such as consumer cooperatives, housing cooperatives and workers’ mutual insurance programs ▼ establish labor protection bodies and a labor protection inspection system at all levels
