All About Me A Poem by Laura Zupan

I was born on the first day of fall- my parents didn’t mind moving me, they didn’t mind at all! “Go here, go there!” shouted Uncle Sam. So go we did, to the Azores and Netherlands!

Back in Utah, I just wanted to be a boy, but soon found that teasing took away joy. People would tease me and point out that my hair was too short, But mom was firm “if she’s happy, I’m happy.” was her retort.

I needed a hobby, turns out softball was it! I loved the run and play, but especially to hit! It taught me how to work with a team, And it gave me my first big dream.

Middle school was tough, but I had to get through it! Turning to religion was my way to do it! I learned about values and my beliefs, And it became my solace and place of relief. I still feel it now, even though I am grown, Religion to me means feeling at home!

Then, I was off to high school, a blue Bingham Miner! My softball career, it turns out, was no shiner! Although I felt broken, and kicked to the dirt, I learned to get up, no matter how bad it hurt.

I was off to the theatre to fine a new niche, boy was a different from catching a pitch! It was a hard thing to learn, to sing and to dance! But I wouldn’t change it a bit, this new found “romance.”

Once high school was done, I got shoved out of the nest! I went to school abroad and decided that it wasn’t the best. Although I was lonely, so USU had a short life on my shelf- I learned something invaluable, how to take care of myself!

Now that I was home, I enrolled at SLCC- But I couldn’t find a passion, so it didn’t stick! I found a few jobs until I knew which was right, And I went back to school to study teaching at night.

Now I am married, and going to class, In the hopes that one day, I too can give back. I’m studying hard to prove I can be A useful tool for my community. I hope that one day I will be a successful teacher, but for right now, I’m just looking forward to the future.
