General Safety Information All science classes have potential hazards…

Concerns & Issues for OUR Class General hazard warning –When you see this symbol, triple check for safety issues

Safety Contract Each student and a parent or guardian will sign a safety contract. Students without a signed contract on file will not be allowed to participate labs 

Safety Contract 1.I will act responsibly at all times in the classroom. I understand that horseplay, jokes, and pranks are not appropriate in a science classroom. 2.I will follow all instructions, written and verbal, carefully. Ask your teacher questions if you do not understand the instructions. 3.I will not touch any equipment or supplies until instructed to do so by the teacher.

Safety Contract 4.I will perform only those activities that have been authorized by the teacher. I will never do anything that is not called for by the procedure. I understand that unauthorized experiments are forbidden. 5.I will never eat, drink, or chew gum in the classroom unless instructed to do so by the teacher. I will not use classroom equipment as containers for food or drink.

Safety Contract 7.I will wear my safety goggles whenever we are working with chemicals or heat. I understand that there are no exceptions to this rule. 8.I will keep my table and the area around it clean and neat. Clean & Return all equipment to its proper storage area. 11. I will immediately notify the teacher of any emergency. Report any accident (spill, broken glass, breakage, fire, etc.) to teacher.

Safety Contract 14. Always carry a microscope with both hands. Hold the arm with one hand; place the other hand under the base. 15. *See next slide 16. Never open storage cabinets or closets without permission from the teacher. 17. Handle all Glassware with care. Do not remove any materials or chemicals from science lab area.

Safety Contract 15. I will treat all preserved specimens and dissecting supplies with care and respect. –I will not remove preserved specimens from the science room. –I will use scalpels, scissors, and other sharp instruments only as instructed. –I will never cut any material towards me— always cut away from my body. –I will report any cut or scratch from sharp instruments to the teacher immediately.

Safety Contract 20. Dress Properly: Wear your Lab Apron! Tie back long hair, baggy clothes, and dangling jewelry while doing a laboratory activity. 21.Learn where to safety equipment is located and how to use it. Know where the exit are located & what to do in case of an emergency or fire drill.

Safety Contract I know whom to contact for help in case of an emergency.  Mrs. Conley  Mrs. Kada  Any other adult in the classroom  Main Office  Nurse’s Office

Breaking the Contract On a case-by-case basis, breaking the contract may result in: –Removal from the lab activity and receiving a ZERO for the lab report. –School disciplinary procedures
