 IDN to provide “canned” demo (with sound) of the IDN itself and the map server.  Provide statistics on the IDN CEOS and GEOSS portals that were developed. Action Item #20-13 & #20-14

Action Item #20-14

 Question #1: What is a “portal”  Answer:  (Source: wikipedia) Web portals are sites on web that typically provide personalized capabilities to their visitors.  (Source: GCMD) Virtual subsets of data or services targeted for special purposes.  Question #2: What is the difference between the GCMD and the IDN?  Answer: Although the IDN and the GCMD share the DIF, SERF, supplemental information, and the conference calendar, the directories have divergent targeted users. (e.g., IDN has “Interop Forum”) Action Item: Provide 2 FAQ Q&A

 Interoperability through the use of the Open Archives Initiative (OAI) Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (PMH).  Use of XSLT for translating metadata records from one format to another.  Use of international characters and mathematical symbols.  Language translations of keywords.  Use of an OpenAPI.  CEOS Plone web site, with discussion lists available.  Soon: Web Services and Service Oriented Architecture  Compliance with Federal and Agency web site standards and guidelines. The IDN Enables Interoperability

hi user's, i've started with DIF and we have interest in using it in our project SegHidro I would like to know why in We HAVE: ATMOSPHERE > ATMOSPHERIC WINDS > SURFACE WINDS > U WIND COMPONENT &currentItem=%22%22&query=%5BParameters%3ACategory%3D%27EARTH+ SCIENCE%27%2CTopic%3D%27ATMOSPHERE%27%2CTerm%3D%27ATM OSPHERIC+WINDS%27%2CVariable%3D%27SURFACE+WINDS%27%5D5D and in we haven't U WIND COMPONENT i have great interest in many parameters that there aren't in The IDN “Negotiates” Keywords

In response to your interest in keywords that aren't in the list: The U WIND COMPONENT is a "detailed" variable. Detailed variables are NOT controlled. The hierarchy within EARTH SCIENCE is: TOPIC > TERM > VARIABLE > Detailed Variable Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Surface Winds > U WIND COMPONENT Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Upper Level Winds > U WIND COMPONENT Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Surface Winds > V WIND COMPONENT Atmosphere > Atmospheric Winds > Upper Level Winds > V WIND COMPONENT The U WIND COMPONENT and V WIND COMPONENT are “Detailed Variables” within both topics: SURFACE WINDS and UPPER LEVEL WINDS.

Please begin with the keyword page found here: You will find general information on the keywords, along with the official citation for the keywords. Then you can click on the keyword list at the bottom of that page: to check the 11 sets of “controlled” keywords offered, along with the Science Keyword Rules. If you wish to make an addition or suggest a modification, please click on Science Keyword Rules: After you have read the rules, go to the Procedures for GCMD Keyword Modification page: where you are directed to send your suggestion to the Expect a prompt response. Thank you for your interest.
