The impact on us and businesses

Tell me:  A change in technology that has occurred.  How this has changed the way a business operates.  Was this change positive / negative for the business? Why?

 What is technological change.  Analyse the nature and scope of technological change on businesses.  Assess the effects of technological change has on marketing opportunities, the culture of the business and the processes and systems used in businesses.  The strategies businesses might adopt in response to technological change.

Technological change: changes the range, applications and efficiency of technology available. Technological change has been far reaching over the last decade and promises to continue to do so over the next 10 years. There are few businesses that have been untouched by it, but some have turned it more to their advantage than others.

The change in information technology has been rapid and had dramatic affects on the way businesses operate… Lets have a look at an example of the internet….

 New ways of marketing  New selling methods  New ways of researching customers  New products required  Cost saving methods? Virtual Presence – rather than physical presence.  Assess to international markets.  Easier ways to find suppliers.  Quicker methods of communication  Ability to locate anywhere in the world

 New products  Cost savings – especially in operations management  Improved efficiency and better customer service  New marketing opportunities

 Rapid obsolescence of existing technology.  HR management issues – training issues / redundancy.  Capital cost / training cost / maintenance cost.  Change in culture required??  If you don’t change – do you fail???

Research:  Find examples of businesses that have failed either because of technological change or because they did not respond to technological change.  Find examples of businesses who have benefited from developments in technology  Lets look at some case studies and complete some who, what, which shows that grids

 What technology has affected the media industry?  What opportunities and threats has technology created for the media industry?  What strategies may media businesses have to adopt in the future to ensure survival?
