Death by Beauty

 Narcissus was the son of the river god Cephissus and the nymph Liriope  He was the most beautiful boy on earth  He would not return love to someone, who was not as beautiful as himself  Narcissus’s beauty killed him

 Narcissus was lost in the woods that Echo lived in  Echo tried to make Narcissus love her, but he tried to run away from her  Echo made a prayer to Aphrodite  Aphrodite sought vengeance on Narcissus by luring him to a hidden pool  At the pool he saw his reflection and fell in love with it  Narcissus stayed there till he died  A new flower grew in the place were he died, and the nymphs named it Narcissus

 Ovid, a Roman poet, wrote the classical version  Parthenius wrote a version were Narcissus commits suicide  Conon also wrote a version similar to Parthenius’s version, but it was Nemesis, the goddess of revenge, who sought out vengeance
