Jon Peart – Partner Director of Savvy Construction Jon came on board as partner 2 years ago and heads up the Construction side of the business Construction Management and Surveying Background – ensuring continued and sustained growth of the business Steve Dunne – Founder and Managing Director of Savvy Group – Comprising Savvy Construction and Savvy Maintenance and Renovation Steve set up Savvy 5 years ago come from a construction Management and Quantity Surveying background over 20 years experience in the field David Dunne – Partner Director of Savvy Maintenance and Renovations David has 18 years experience in the mechanical and electrical side of the industry and works hard running the maintenance and renovations side of the company

Ideation to Business Launch  Involvement Often Underestimated  The Business Plan is equal to a warm up to multiple triathlons – if you knew the road ahead would you start the warm up?  The road ahead is rocky – with c 1 in 3 new businesses ending in failure  Business owners and managers must possess a unique set of skills to drive the business forward  But once you make the leap the rewards are multi faceted So what does it take to make things a success?

Vision, Focus, Discipline & Determination  Key Buzz words – not to be underestimated – much more than words  Vision to see your idea as a business and a brand and what form it will take  Focus to make the idea happen and to continue it to the next stages of success when launched  Discipline to put in the long productive hours to get the business off the ground, and then maintain it  Determination

Don’t Be Afraid of Failure – Never Give Up  Don’t dwell on failure - otherwise your business will suffer  Brush yourself down, learn from what has gone wrong and move on positively  Use failure to reinvent, improve and progress going forward  Instil this attitude in all that work for you and share what you have learnt with them so they don’t fall at the same hurdles  You’ve got work hard and have guts to make things a success and learning through failure and improving is par for the course

Respect, look after and know your customer  Deliver on your promises no matter how hard they are to stick to  Under promise and over deliver rather than overpromise and fail to deliver  Always listen and don’t be afraid to ask questions ‘always do what you say you are going to do’

Your team are your most important tool Respect Value and Reward Staff  Don’t ever forget – recognise and reward loyalty  It’s something that’s easy to lose sight of but key to:  Give credit where credit is due  Hero extraordinary performance and those going the extra mile  Make staff feel worthy and valued  Look after your team and they will look after you, let them be part of the dream

Strive to be No 1 in your field  Don’t be afraid to take on the ‘Big Companies’  Always believe you have a chance of success  Know your competitors well find out their strengths and make sure you better them  Ensure you have a strong point of difference in the market place, having a unique selling point will win you business  Understand the market and clients and always deliver on  Timescale  Budget  Quality  Flexibility

Embrace Technology  Keeps you ahead of the game  Gives you a competitive advantage  Can be a costly outlay, particularly for a smaller company, but is worth the investment - you can’t afford to be left behind by the bigger players  Don’t be afraid of change Saves you time and money

Create a Strong Brand  It may seem obvious but it is something that smaller companies can often forget  Creating the right name, brand and feel to a company is key to it’s success no matter how big or small  Your company branding and name is critical as it’s the first thing a new client sees / hears about you  It’s really important to think about your potential audience, and what you want to say about your business and then align your branding and company ethos to this  A strong brand name is usually short, punchy and memorable

Finally  Blood, Sweat and Tears will yield results  Enjoy what you do with a Passion  Find the time to De- stress We’re still working on this one!
