On my own questions. continue Activity: The students will view a series of slides and practice identifying, answering, and writing questions.

Teacher Page Procedure: 1. The teacher will click through each of the slides. 2. Discuss the different types of questions. Related Activity: Distribute a test that the students have taken. Identify the question types used on the test.

There are many kinds of questions. What is your name? How many days until your birthday? Which character was the friendliest? What is your favorite color?

One kind of question is called--Right There The answer to the question can be found “right there.”

Right There Example--- Mary had a little lamb. What kind of animal did Mary have?

Another kind of question is called--Think and Search The answers to Think and Search questions come from more than one place in the reading.

Think and Search Example-- Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water. Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jump over the candlestick. Compare and contrast the boys in the Nursery Rhymes.

Another question type is called--Author and Me To answer these questions you combine what you know with what is in the text.

Author and Me Example-- Baa, baa, black sheep, Have you any wool? What will they do with the wool?

A final question type is called--On My Own To answer On My Own questions you use your own experiences and opinions.

On My Own Example-- Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow? What would you plant in your garden?

On a test, read a question carefully. Ask yourself, how many parts is this question? Be sure that you answer all the parts to the question.

Practice writing questions for something you are studying. Question types are: 1. Right there. 2. Think and search. 3. Author and me. 4. On my own. The end
