WHAT ARE YOU ALLERGIC TO? DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO? AND HOW CAN YOU FIND OUT WHAT YOUR ALLERGIC TO?

My name is Marian Adejokun, I am 21 years old. With all my years in and out of hospital, I never knew I was allergic to any medication until one evening it all started off with an itchy eye (11/01/11). I got advice from the chemist to use a particular eye drop. The eye drops were not expired, it was up to date and my mom applied the drops the same day my eyes were itching. This was the FIRST SIGNS of Steven Johnson Syndrome.

Less than 45mins later, I started having blisters appearing all over my body. From my head to the soles of my feet. I could not swallow, could hardly see and I could not take a bath due to the stinging sensation caused. I ended up in the hospital at the resuscitation center, were all the nurses and doctors did not know what was wrong with me. I was put in isolation room because they said it could be Swine Flu. On the 4 th day still in the isolation room, my condition got worse, my eyes were glued together and I was unable to see, when I blink it was blood gushing out of my eyes. Later on that day I was transferred to a specialist hospital where I was diagnosed with One in a Million Deadly Allergy Reaction known as Steven Johnson Syndrome (SJS).

Laying in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for 3 weeks on breathing machine and getting fed through a tube in my nose was very discomforting. I made this pamphlet to inform people about how serious Steven Johnson Syndrome was. There are many ways people can be tested by going to the GP to get allergy tests done and also if you are allergic to anything please make sure you get a Medical Alert Bracelet. This medical bracelet is to notify the doctors and nurses to know what you are allergic.

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR SUPPORT ALWAYS STOP, LOOK AND READ BEFORE YOU USE ANYTHING. WARNING TO ALL MY BROTHERS AND SISTERS OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE READ PERCRIPTIONS, MEDICATIONS AND SEE WHAT YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO BEFORE TAKING IN ANY KIND OF MEDICATIONS.
