KEY IDEA: Main functions: To produce female gametes or eggs (ova) also known as oocytes. To allow for internal fertilization. To provide for internal development and growth of embryo and fetus

Ovary – Immature egg cells, or ova, are stored here in follicles

Follicles – A cluster of cells surrounding an immature egg cell that help it mature.

Fallopian Tubes (Oviducts) – Tubes connecting each ovary to the uterus. Fertilization usually occurs here.

Uterus – able to receive and support a fertilized egg cell

Cervix – Outer end of the uterus

Vagina – Canal where sperm are received during intercourse. Also where a baby exits during child birth.
