Recommended Definitions Recommended definitions are: Mitigation: Any action taken to directly reduce or eliminate the risk to human life and property from a tsunami." Preparedness: “Any action taken to enhance response to a warning or threat.”

Mitigation Includes Signage for evacuation routes Developing evacuation maps and inundation maps from inundation models Use of science and technology to identify and assess the hazard (e.g., DEMs and inundation models) Development and Implementation of Community Education and Outreach Programs Providing decision-makers with tools to develop tsunami hazard mitigation plans and procedures

Preparedness Includes Providing decision-makers with tools to develop tsunami emergency response plans and procedures TsunamiReady Improving local (e.g., community-level) tsunami product reception and dissemination capabilities
