 Achieve a healthy weight?  Improve your sports performance?  Develop better eating habits?  Learn about nutrition’s role in health?  Learn nutrition’s role in managing your chronic disease?  …then the NUTRITION CENTER is for YOU!

The Nutrition Center provides Nutrition Services to students, faculty and staff employees of The University of Akron.

Nutrition Assessment Nutrition Counseling Medical Nutrition Therapy Menu & Food Intake Analysis Nutrition Education

To perform a nutrition assessment, we gather the following information:  Height  Weight  Body Composition  Food intake history and patterns  Detailed analysis of diet

 Scale to measure weight  Stadiometer to measure height  BIA machine to measure body composition

The BIA machine is a bioelectrical impedance analysis machine which measures the body’s resistance to current. In other words, it determines your body’s proportion of muscle and fat. The BIA machine is quick and easy to use and it does NOT hurt!

After a nutrition assessment the nutrition professional will spend one-on-one time counseling you toward your nutrition goals and teach you how to achieve them.

Medical Nutrition Therapy is the use of proper nutrition in helping to manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and other conditions. *We provide information and diet education based on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nutrition Care Process.

 During our session we will take a “24-hour recall” of all that you had to eat in the past 24 hours as well as a “food frequency questionnaire” which asks what you eat on a regular basis.  We enter this information into a diet analysis program that tells us the calories, carbohydrate, protein and fat you are eating.  We use all of this information to determine what you should be eating to achieve your nutrition goals.

Either individually or in group settings, we will teach class(es) on a nutrition-related topic of interest. Topics include, but are not limited to:  Managing your own diet with MyPlate  Sports nutrition  Eating well on a budget  Eating well on campus  Avoiding the “Freshman 15”

The Nutrition Center is located in Shrank Hall South, Room 210
