There are two types of maglev: ●Electromagnetic suspension (EMS): using conventional electromagnets mounted on the end of a pair of structures placed under the train that wrap around the sides and the bottom of the slideway. The magnets are attracted to the rails rolled iron, holding up the train. ● Electrodynamic suspension (EDS): the train gets the levitation exploiting the opposite polarities of the magnets of the vehicle and the windings sites on the track, or vice versa. The repulsive force is developed as a result of the movement of the vehicle is not active when the vehicle is stationary.

The main problem of the maglev trains and the enormous cost of construction of the lines, for this reason, the maglev trains are not used for short distances. For this reason, these trains are currently used in a few states.

● Much faster than the traditional train (record is 623 Km/h in 2012). ● Consumes less because there is no friction. ● Produces very little noise. ● It can compete with plane because of the speed.

In Italy is planning to build a connection to the maglev system that connects in few minutes Firenze to the pisa’s airport. The objective of this project is to build a maglev line that pass through the station of Santa Maria Novella in Firenze and then to the airport in Firenze and finally to civil airport of Pisa. The Maglev would connect Florence and Pisa in less time from the present, through the hour and fifteen minutes to twenty minutes with the maglev train.
