Humboldt Current Brings cold water up from the Antarctic So, even though the islands are located on the Equator …

Types of Flora & Fauna Native – Found in the Galapagos and other places. Many are migratory. Some were blown to or drifted to the islands. Endemic – Found nowhere else on Earth. These animals evolved on the Islands. Exotic - Brought by humans. Some of these are invasive, some are not.

Voyage of the HMS Beagle Collected thousands of specimens and shipped them back to England

Darwin realized that the animals on each island were slightly different.

The shape of the shell is unique to each island. According to local legend, Darwin also said that the taste of the meat was unique.
