Multiple Meaning of Words Focus Lesson and Quiz

HOMOGRAPHS ARE WORDS THAT ARE SPELLED ALIKE, BUT HAVE DIFFERENT MEANINGS.

I watched the bat flitting through the trees. A bat is the name of a mammal that flies.

Raymond gripped the bat tightly as he waited for the pitch. A bat is a tool used in playing a game.

I hope I can bat a home run! The word bat is an action word which means to hit an object.

HETERONYMS ARE WRITTEN THE SAME, BUT ARE PRONOUNCED DIFFERENTLY HETERONYMS ARE WRITTEN THE SAME, BUT ARE PRONOUNCED DIFFERENTLY. THEY HAVE DIFFERENT MEANINGS.

HETERONYMS The arrow flew when the archer snapped the string of the bow. The audience applauded and the star of the play took another bow.

HETERONYMS Please close the door after you come inside the classroom. Margaret came in and sat close to her friend Mary so they could share a book.
