EASTER ARE COMING Hello dear friend Here are some information about Easter in Poland. Easter is preceded by a 40-day period of Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday. The last period of Lent is Holy Week, and it begins Palm Sunday. Holy Week is as follows:

PALM SUNDAY Palm Sunday - palms are brought to churches, the palms are held throughout the year until the next Palm Sunday.

HOLY THURSDAY Holy Thursday –it is celebrated in memory of Jesus' last supper with the apostles.

GOOD FRIDAY Good Friday is the day commemorating the court, the passion and death of Christ. Christians fast on this day. That day the mass is not celebrated. In the evening, priests in red robes, kneel or prostrate themselves and pray in silence, then begins the Liturgy of the Word.

A very interesting custom is on Saturday when people go to church in order to have their food blessed. This traditional food is above all eggs which are painted in different colours and patterns, ham or sausage, bread and piece of Easter cake with raisins.

EASTER SUNDAY Easter Sunday is the first day of Easter. On this day many families gather together at breakfast. Generally presents are not given on Easter, except for some regions of Poland where chocolate eggs and sweats are given to children by rabbits. The symbol of Easter are eggs, rabbits and chicks.

EASTER MONDAY Easter Monday is the second day of Easter. The day after Easter is known as Easter Monday. On this day there is a custom of sprinkling water relatives and friends. It is the last day of Easter celebration.

THE SYMBOLISM OF THE EASTER BASKET Bread - It symbolizes Jesus and his body. Easter eggs - An egg is a symbol of new life, expectations, spring, and the beginning of the resurrection.

Salt and pepper - Salt symbolizes immortality, cleansing, protecting them against deterioration, continuity of spiritual life, as well as the hospitality of the house and the harmony between God and man. Sausage-Ham or sausage are a sign of prosperity, wealth and prosperity.
