Documentation of Sources MLA Style

Difference Between Bibliography and Works Cited Bibliography is a list of every source you even looked at. Works Cited is a list of only the sources you referred to in your paper. Cited means referred to in your paper. Works Cited – Notice the spelling – it is more than one work and the works are cited in your paper

MLA Format Used for all writing in English and History APA Format used for Science (very similar, but some key differences)

Basic MLA format for a book One author or editor Ruiz, Ramon Eduardo. Triumphs and Tragedy. New York: Norton, Print. Author’s last name, First name. Title of Book in Italics. City where published: Publisher name, most recent copyright date. Print. Second and subsequent lines are indented in what is called a “hanging indent.” Periods and commas are always inside quotation marks.

Basic Style for Citations of Electronic Sources (Including Online Databases) Here are some common features you should try and find before citing electronic sources in MLA style. Not every Web page will provide all of the following information. However, collect as much of the following information as possible both for your citations and for your research notes: Author and/or editor names (if available) Article name in quotation marks (if applicable) Title of the Website, project, or book in italics. Any version numbers available, including revisions, posting dates, volumes, or issue numbers. Publisher information, including the publisher name and publishing date. Take note of any page numbers (if available). Date you accessed the material. URL (if required, or for your own personal reference).
