Unemployment in Puerto Rico Yamile Perez

Introduction  This presentation is to show information related to unemployment in Puerto Rico and its causes, see also federal statistics offices which give information on the subject.

The term unemployment refers to unemployment. An unemployed person is one subject that is part of the active population (found in working age) and seeking employment without success. This results in the inability to work despite the will of the person.

CAUSES OF UNEMPLOYMENT FRICTIONAL : Occurs because workers who are looking for a job can not find immediately, while looking for work are counted as unemployed. CICLICO : When the business cycle goes down, the demand for goods and services falls also, therefore, be dismissed workers. TEMPORARY : Occurs when industries have a season low, such as during the winter in the construction industry or in other sectors whose production tasks are performed outdoors. STRUCTURAL : Is due to a mismatch between the type of workers that employers require and the type of workers seeking decent workspace young workers with inadequate education or apprenticeship and with little or no experience can not find work because employers believe that not will produce enough. On the other hand highly skilled workers may be unemployed if there is sufficient demand for their skills.

EFFECTS OF UNEMPLOYMENT UNEMPLOYED Although it has been legislated for unemployment insurance, actually, is that the amount is usually less than the regular rate and its duration is limited, moreover, not all people are covered by this insurance. Unemployment is the primary determinant of poverty. Apart induces other problems like alcoholism, drugs or suicide. WORKERS Those employees are forced to pay part of the costs of unemployment through higher taxes. ECONOMY The first cost to society are not produced resources to have a certain amount of unoccupied labor (opportunity cost). It harms that part of the workforce be unoccupied for some time, as the work habits and potential productivity of workers will be adversely affected.

The impact of unemployment and poverty among Puerto Rican families in the performance and school performance. There are many factors to consider when measuring performance and student achievement in the school system of Puerto Rico. Paying special attention to dropouts in the early stages of formal education. Among the important factors you need to study the impact that unemployment levels have been recorded on the island and the high levels of poverty. Son many students enrolled in schools in the country for one reason or another have to leave their studies. According to UNICEF, a global organization responsible for safeguarding the rights of children, education should be free and is the state who is forced to support that right. A right to an excellent education and aimed at creating citizens capable of being independent and self-sustaining. However, many of these rights are affected by external factors such as unemployment and poverty. Many may say that there is no poverty in Puerto Rico scraping and other global companies. However, although in Puerto Rico the most people is based on government assistance, poverty is existing. This poverty is reflected in the poor family planning where households consist mostly of more than three members, only one of them who is working to support others. The situation is aggravated when the member is unemployed and can not get a job immediately.

Puerto-Rico - Unemployment rate The employment and unemployment statistics for December show that the labor force has been in continuous growth since July 2013, representing an increase of 171,000 million to 197,000 million, for an absolute increase of 26 thousand people.

Part of creating new jobs and all the strategies that the government should take to remove some unemployment we as citizens must take action, one and the most important is education, we can not allow our children to stop school, we have to fight for our children power to college so we can remove some poverty, whether for professionals have been affected by the crisis, we can say to those who have a college degree. If all population and aim were that at least one resident of each household finishes college would be a huge achievement.
