Dietitians and the BDA The Edinburgh Royal Infirmary was the first known hospital to develop a dietetic department in 1924 The very first meeting of the British Dietetic Association was held on 24 January 1936 at St Thomas’ Hospital in London.

What do dietitians do? assess, diagnose and treat diet and nutrition problems at an individual and wider public health level. Dietitians are statutorily regulated, with a protected title and governed by an ethical code, to ensure that they always work to the highest standard.

Food Services Specialist Group To promote good nutritional practices through food and beverage services; To provide a focus for sharing good practice within food service; To raise the profile of the importance of food by providing a forum for collaboration and communication.

Food Services Specialist Group appropriate and enjoyable food and beverage services in all sectors. membership includes clinical dietitians, dietitians working closely with catering colleagues, and dietitians employed within the food industry. pragmatic approach to successfully catering for wide-ranging nutritional and cultural needs within the complex operational and budgetary constraints and political demands typical in today’s public sector settings.

Falls and us 50% of over 80’s will fall at least once a year. Loss of confidence leading to reduced mobility. Cost >£2.3 bn per year. Often the event that precipitates move into residential care.

Impact of skin care

Impact of Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism 60,000 deaths per year in UK. 80% are clinically silent. £640 million per year to treat. 4% of patients admitted for VTE are from Care Homes. 0.5% of the population live in Care Homes.
