The Race: How It Works

Student links Planning sheet with additional links (Word Document) Evaluation Sheet (Word Document) Diagram for Planning (rhino file) Plan sheet

Minimum Maximum Body Length200 mm305 mm Body Height with wheels75 mm Body Mass (completed car without CO2)50 g Body Width at Axles, Front and Back35mm42mm Vehicle Total Width (including wheels)90mm Axles/axle holes/wheelbase Dragsters must have two(2) axles per car, no more. Bottom of axle bearing above bottom of car5mm10mm Rear axle hole from rear of car9mm100 mm Wheelbase (axle distance apart at farthest point105mm270mm Bearings bushings and lubricants may be used Glue may be used to secure bearings to body Spacers may be used (washers)8

Power plant (CO2 Cartridge Hole) The power plant hole must be at the farthest point at the rear of the car and must be drilled parallel to the racing surface to assure proper puncture of the CO2 Cartridge A minimum of 3mm thickness around the entire power plant hole must be maintained on the dragster for safety. MinimumMaximum Hole Depth50mm52mm Safety zone thickness3mm Chamber diameter19mm20mm Lowest point of the chamber diameter to race surface26mm 40mm Eye Screws Dragsters must have two screw eyes per car that meet tolerances, no more. Screw eyes must not make contact with the racing surface. The track string must pass through both screw eyelets., which are located on the center line of the bottom of the car. Glue may be used to reinforce the eyelets. It is the designers/engineer responsibility to see that the eye screw holes are tightly closed to prevent the track string from slipping out. As with all adjustments, this must be done prior to testing the vehicle. Inside diameter3mm 5 mm Distance apart (at farthest points)150mm270mm

Wheels A dragster must have four wheels, no more. Two wheels must meet rules W2 and W3. The other two must meet rules W4 and W5. All four wheels must touch the racing surface a the same time. All wheels must roll. Wheel must be made entirely from plastic. Dimension must be consistent for the full circumstance of the wheel. W2 Front diameter32mm 37mm W3 Front width (at surface contact point)2mm5 mm W4 Rear diameter30mm40mm W5 Rear Width (at surface contact point)15mm18mm Once competition begins and vehicles have been checked for accuracy, no changes will be made to the vehicles.
