 Defines what you want to accomplish  Challenges you to exceed expectations.  Can Measure your progress  Allows to celebrate your successes  Evaluation identifies when you have strayed off the path  Know when you have accomplished the mission

 Academic(School, homework, grades)  Personal Relationships (friends, family, classmates, teachers)  Health  Self-discipline (Clean room, control emotions, be kind)  Money Management ( save money, find a job, avoid waste)  Career plans  Any other categories?

 Short term -can be accomplished within three months  Medium term- can be accomplished in 3 months to a year  Long term -can be accomplished in 1-10 years

S pecific-state exactly what should be done M easurable- Include how the goal can be measured A ttainable-Determine action steps to reach the goal R ealistic-a stretch but allow likelihood of success T ime bound- timeframe in which to be accomplished

 Specific: “I will buy a new car”  Measurable: “by having $5000 for a down payment”  Attainable: “by saving $200 from every paycheck”  Realistic: “over the next two years”  Time Bound: “to take to college freshman year”

 Specific: “I want”  Measurable: “to run a race”  Attainable: “somewhere”  Realistic: “like California”  Time Bound: “someday”

Goal Statement: I will run the Rock and Roll marathon in 4 hours and10minutes on October 21,  Specific: Rock and Roll Marathon (26.2 miles)  Measurable: Distance and time frame  Attainable: Actions steps created to achieve goal.  Realistic: Realistic because I had accomplished 2 others but not within the goal time.  Time Bound: It gives me a specific date from which to plan backwards

The To-Do list:  Research training plans  Identify one that reflects my personal schedule  Plan workout schedule backwards  Register for Race  Begin training 12 weeks before race  Time short, medium and long runs)  Keep daily running journal to record distance, time, and course  Evaluate plan weekly  Adjust to refocus and keep on track
