Getting people to join our organization. Why do we do this? If you are not able to articulate why you are hear, then how will anyone else know?

Why are we DU’s? 1. The brotherhood 2. Good facility 3. Someone always to help you with anything 4. Great networking – DU is the 6 th largest fraternity 5. Being a Geed sucks Facts: Studies show that 76% of our nation's senators, 71% of the men listed in Who's Who in America, and 85% of the Fortune 500 executives are fraternity members. Of the nation's 50 largest corporations, 43 are headed by fraternity members. All but two U.S. Presidents since 1825 have been fraternity men, 63% of the U.S. President's cabinet members since 1900 have been fraternity men. 85% (40 out of 47) of the U.S. Supreme Court Justices since 1910 have been fraternity men.

How? It all starts with: Conversations PEOPLE JOIN PEOPLE People don’t join buildings People don’t join greek letters People don’t join parties You cannot recruit who you DON’T KNOW

Conversational Skills The SCREW Avoid: “Hey what’s your name? So uh what's your major? Oh that’s cool.” Way more interesting: Recent news Girls girls girls Family Random funny topics IE: “If you could punch any celebrity in the face who would it be?”

You guys can’t party? But I’m a thirsty freshman…. So what will you say when they ask? Flip it to them and ask: “What do you want out of your fraternity experience? Do you know?” You say we used to rage so hard we got suspended. This house has been to rock bottom. We’re on the way back up. Do not trash talk other houses. Just caution them that parties are just a recruitment tool.

Think small, not BIG Why? Again, you can’t recruit who you don’t know. Big events aren’t always good ways to get to know people. Alternatives: Rush is big, but not the only thing Go eat meals with potential bidders Hang out with them Bring them to parties Make them comfortable enough to walk up here THEN bring up fraternity life. You want them to ask YOU what DU is about not vice versa. If its someone you like GET THE FOLLOW UP.

Quantity drives Quality Its better to have a list of 100 ehh guys than a “quality” list of 10. Why? You can pick out the best of 100 rather than settling for those 10. If it’s a good rushee, ask about their friends they’ve made so far. You must go out and recruit. Go to their rooms, go to the grille with them. We must reach out so it seems like we’re selecting them, not like they have selected us.

What kind of guys do we want? Smart Good looking Personable Athletic Humorous Motivated Non-scuz Loyal

To Do Next Semester: Wear letters as much as possible Party wherever possible to meet guys Get in touch with the BGR leaders and find guys from their groups Get out of the house and meet people-you’re not going to be able to do shit just talking about it around here Get numbers and call them, say hey come up to DU we’re playing poker, having a rush event, need another guy to play volleyball, etc.

IFC Regulations People like Grahovac say were not allowed to: Use sorority women at rush events Use alcohol at Rush events Women in general such as Hooters night Give out flyers or propaganda in public places
