Pierre Loisel used to work a govern- ment office. One day he and his wife Mathilde received an invitation a ball the palace. Mathilde spent 400 francs a new dress but had no more money jewellery. She borrowed a beautiful necklace her friend Jeanne. The couple had a very good time the palace. But the ball Mathilde lost the Necklace. They borrowed money to buy a new diamond necklace Jeanne.
