 Written in Italian instead of Latin  Understood by the common man, underclass, and uneducated, not just the educated elite.  Composed of 34 cantos, Italian for “I sing”.  Written in terza rima:  Interlocking three-line rhyme scheme (A-B-A; B- C-B; C-D-C; D-E-D; E-F-E; etc.)  Each three-line scheme is called a tercet.
