verse 1 The LORD said to Samuel: “How long will you mourn for Saul since I have rejected him as king over Israel? Consider this...

Question One Are we aware that in each succeeding generation God is doing a new thing?

Question Two Are we guilty, like Samuel of clinging to the past?

verse 1 Fill your horn and be on your way. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem I have chosen one of his sons to be king. Consider this

Question Three How do we respond when we see God choosing a new generation of leaders?

Question Four Do we recognise the need for anointed service: spiritually appointed and endorsed servants of the LORD?

verse 2 But Samuel said, “ How can I go? Saul will hear about it and kill me.” Consider this

Question Five Are we more afraid of the powers of this world than we are of the LORD?

verse 2/3 The Lord said: “Take... Say... Invite... Anoint... I will show you...” Consider this

Question Six When God speaks do we obey?

Question Nine Do we look for people to undertake the LORD’s work who remind us of those who have gone before? Are we rooted in the patterns of the past?

Question Thirteen How do we respond when the guidance goes cold?

Question Fourteen Are we looking for someone to pick up the baton... and this someone doesn’t appear to be on the scene? Are we judging as Man judges? Has God chosen the last person that you would have given the job to?

verse 11 “Send for him. We will not sit down/gather round until he arrives.” Consider this

verse 12 So he sent and had him brought in. He was ruddy with a fine appearance and handsome features. Consider this

verse 12 Then the LORD said, “Rise and anoint him. He is the one.” Consider this

verse 13 So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers. Consider this

Question Fifteen Do we come into contact with people whose lives are clearly empowered by the Spirit of God? Have we stopped expecting to?
