4 ConcernsPositioning Globally economic data has been disappointing all year Reduced equity exposure Government bonds despite strategic view European debt crisis Little or no exposure to European equities or bonds Supportive of our Gold position Inflationary pressures in Emerging Markets have kept Monetary Policy tight (perhaps for too long?) Less exposure to EM equity markets Local Government debt preferred Equity and High Yield valuations improving in the US Increasing exposure to High Yield Greater certainty about the economic outlook in the US and Asia required before significant equity increase Portfolio Themes Source: Barings as at 30 th September 2011

5 Summary The Fund remains asset allocation-focused (‘own the right asset at the right time’) Has been defensively positioned throughout the summer European developments not good for long-term growth prospects The UK not immune, but retains flexibility Concerns about slowing activity in China/Asia Better news out of the US and China would be supportive of risk assets, we are on the lookout Have cash available to deploy Cheap assets coming out of banks
