Presentation transcript:

1. The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper and Comforter, Living Within Us How is our love for Christ linked to our obedience to His commands? What are some basic areas in which Christ expects obedience? In verses 15-16, what two characteristics describe those who love the Lord? Based on the truths of these verses, what should we conclude about someone who claims to be a believer yet lives in disobedience and does not manifest the Spirit’s fruit?

1. The Holy Spirit Is Our Helper and Comforter, Living Within Us In verse 19, what do you think the phrase “but you will see me” means? Jesus promised He would not leave the disciples as orphans. What are some circumstances in which we might have a tendency to feel alone? How does it make you feel to know Christ is with us at all times through the Holy Spirit? What difference should this make for us?

2. The Spirit of Truth Teaches Truth, and Brings Peace to Receptive Hearts How does Judas’ question in verse 22 reflect the disciples’ misunderstanding of the reason Christ had come? What are some common misunderstandings Christians have about Christ’s teachings? What is true of a person who does not keep Christ’s words?

2. The Spirit of Truth Teaches Truth, and Brings Peace to Receptive Hearts How can we hear Christ’s words? What should we do if the words of Christ contradict our beliefs or lifestyle choices? Based on the truths in verses 25-27, what is the relationship of the Spirit to the Son, and the Spirit to the believer? When the world talks of “peace,” to what are they usually referring? How is God’s peace better than a mere cessation of hostilities?

3. The Spirit of Truth Testifies of Jesus How does verse 26 point to the doctrine of the Trinity? Why is it important for us to realize the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are working as a seamless unit? What does it mean to bear witness or testify? What are some practical ways we can bear witness of Christ?

3. The Spirit of Truth Testifies of Jesus What is the roll of the “Spirit of truth” in the lives of sinners? How might it help us to keep in mind that it is the Spirit’s job to convict and convince people as we share the truth? Why does fear keep some Christians from speaking up about Jesus?
