At least 12 units must be studied Almost all subjects are 2 unit subjects, the exception are Extension subjects (Ext English and Ext Maths), Photography, Visual Design, Computer Application and Fundamentals of English, these are 1 unit. 2 unit subjects have 9 lessons per fortnight while I unit subjects have 4 lessons per fortnight. There are some classes that are run outside the timetable. BOSTES REQUIREMENTS (PRELIMINARY)

2 units of English must be studied (this is the only compulsory subject) It is possible to study both 3 units of English and 3 units of Maths on our timetable in Year 11 It is possible to study 14 units on the PLC Sydney timetable BOSTES REQUIREMENTS (PRELIMINARY)

All My Own Work must be completed by all students Each students program of study is submitted to the BOSTES in March and students then confirm these entries Minimum 12 units of study in Year 11 Changing subjects in the Preliminary program of study should be done sooner rather than later OTHER BOSTES REQUIREMENTS (PRELIMINARY)

At least 10 units are studied (with at least 4 subjects) 2 units of English (this is the only compulsory subject) It is possible to study 4 units of English and 4 units of Maths Extension courses are available in English, Maths, Music, History and Continuers Languages BOSTES REQUIREMENTS (HSC)

ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admission Rank) is calculated by using the best 2 units of English plus the best remaining 8 units The mark used for calculating the ATAR is made up of the average of the moderated school assessment mark and the HSC examination mark Marks are “scaled” for the ATAR according to the overall level of achievement of the candidates in each subject ATAR REQUIREMENTS

English: You must choose one of these: English as a Second Language (ESL) (look at eligibility criteria) Advanced English Standard English All these subjects are 2 unit subjects WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Drama: You could choose: Drama This subject is a 2 unit subject. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

History and Studies of Religion: You could choose: Ancient History Modern History Studies of Religion These subjects are all 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Languages: You could choose beginner courses in: Italian Japanese These subjects are both 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Languages: You could choose continuer courses in: Chinese French Italian Japanese Latin These subjects are all 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Languages: If you satisfy eligibility requirements you could choose: Chinese Background Speakers Chinese Heritage Speakers These subjects are both 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Please note: All language students need to meet the BOSTES eligibility requirements to ensure students are in the appropriate course. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Mathematics: You could choose one of these: General Maths Mathematics (2 unit) These subjects are both 2 unit subjects. Be aware the University of Sydney has advised they will have prerequisites of min of Band 4 in 2 unit maths for some courses for the 2019 intake. These courses can be found at the back of the subject selection booklet. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

PDHPE: You could choose: Community and Family Studies PDHPE These subjects are both 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Social Science: You could choose: Business Studies Economics Geography Legal Studies These subjects are all 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Science: You could choose: Biology Chemistry Earth and Environmental Science Physics These subjects are all 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Technological and Applied Studies: You could choose: Design and Technology Textiles and Design Food Technology These subjects are all 2 unit subjects. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Visual Arts: You could choose: Visual Art This subject is a 2 unit subject. WHAT TO CHOOSE?

1 unit subjects: You could choose: Extension 1 English Extension 1 Mathematics Computer Applications Fundamentals of English Visual Design Photography You cannot choose both Visual Design and Photography WHAT TO CHOOSE?

Please note: If you do NOT choose a mathematics subject, you will need to either: take 2x 1unit subjects (see previous slide) or enrol in an outside language subject offered by Open High School (limited availability) or enrol in a TAFE subject WHAT TO CHOOSE?

OTHER COURSES YOU CAN TAKE IN YEAR 11:

2015 a pilot group of Year 11 students sat exam Students did extremely well in the examination so we continued with this program in It draws on topics from across the school curriculum and encourages learners to develop a maturity of critical thought and argument, and a mastery of expression in the English language. Questions are general in nature, demanding discussion and evaluation. There are 5 after school tutorials with an exam in May. CAMBRIDGE: AS GENERAL

Open to high school students interested in doing a first year university Computer Science course. Targeting students who have an interest in computing and who have a solid understanding of mathematics. No prior computer programming or coding experience is required. The course runs from March to June. Some sessions are run at UNSW but the majority are run at PLC Sydney. UNSW COMPUTER SCIENCE COURSE HS1917

Priority is given to students who study Textiles and Design and Italian. MITA ITALIAN TEXTILES COURSE (POST-SCHOOL)

Students will receive an in week 19A with details of how to complete the form. Detailed information can also be found in the subject selection booklet. Subject selection needs to be completed by FRIDAY 22 JULY HOW TO COMPLETE THE SUBJECT SELECTION FORM

The subject selections establish the number of classes required and assists us in determining a timetable and staffing framework. The final subject framework will be determined by the combinations which suit the majority of the students. Students who have selected a combination that results in a clash will meet with Ms Pollett to discuss alternative choices and confirm an alternative combination.
