Itemizing Deduction Schedule A Forms

Objective Given instructions, the learner will demonstrate an understanding of consumer tax forms?

Pre – “Qs” What is itemize deduction? Who can itemized their deduction? When are deductions reported? What can be itemized? How are Schedule A forms prepared?

Itemized Deduction An eligible expense that individual taxpayers in the United States can report on their federal income tax return in order to decrease their taxable income.

Who Itemized? Only a taxpayer is eligible You must be a U.S. citizen and residential alien. Non residential aliens are not eligible.

When can Taxpayers Itemize? Deductions are reported in the year in which the eligible expenses are paid. Items that are paid in the 2010 for year 2010 is deductible in year 2009.

3 Steps to Prepare Schedule A forms 1.First, you must gather the information you'll need to complete the form. 2.Then you will get a copy of the schedule. 3.Finally, you prepare the form carefully and transfer the necessary figures to your federal tax return.
