2 Tacitus – born AD was the greatest Roman historian of his day. Writing in 112AD, he briefly describes how Christians came about: Christus, from whom the name(Christians) had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilate (in) Judea. Annals of Imperial Rome XV.44

3 Pliny the Younger – friend of tacitus and governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor (110AD). They (the Christians) affirmed, however, that the sum of their ‘guilt’ or ‘error’ was that they were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verse a hymn to Christ as to a god. Epistles X.96

4 3:1 “See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me.
